What does it take to be a developer that employers want to hire?
What does it take to be a developer that employers want to hire?
You'll have some answers to this already, as you signed up for the course you already know you need to know HTML, CSS, JavaScript etc to be a developer.
But there are some other skills you are learning here that you might not yet be consciously aware of yet.
I mean the ones you learn when something isn't working on your project.
Things like:
- How to use DevTools to debug your code
- How to google your bug effectively
- How to rubberduck your code
- How to ask for help in a way that can get you useful answers
- How to read and understand Stack Overflow posts.
- How to keep a positive attitude to a difficult problem.
- (Bonus skill) How to guide other developers to learn these skills too.
The next time something isn't working with your project, instead of seeing it as an inconvenient problem that has to be fixed as soon as possible, look at it as an opportunity to practice these skills. Because they are equally as important to an employer as your knowledge of the languages and frameworks we teach on this course, they are skills they will be looking for in your interviews and will be ones you use for your entire career as a developer.
